Indian film soundtracks are an important part of the business of cinema. Music labels acquire rights to distribute songs and albums across streaming platforms and other channels. Large Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Kannada productions have attracted some of the biggest reported audio-rights deals.

Highest audio rights deals in Indian cinema

Pushpa 2: The Rule had a widely reported music-rights deal of ₹65 crore with T-Series. The film was released in December 2024, so it is no longer an upcoming release. Reports put its total non-theatrical deal at about ₹425 crore, which includes music, digital and satellite rights and should not be confused with the audio amount.

2026 Update: Ramayana Music Agreement

In July 2026, reports described a ₹75 crore agreement for both parts of Ramayana with T-Series. It was described as a refundable advance, not an ordinary outright audio-rights sale. For that reason, it is noted separately rather than compared directly with the ten sales above. Source: NDTV.

A note on Dhurandhar: The Revenge: Music-rights reports have conflicted. Variety India reported an estimate of ₹50–60 crore, while Bollywood Hungama reported ₹27 crore. With no publicly disclosed deal document to settle the difference, it is not placed in this ranked table. Variety India | Bollywood Hungama.

Why Audio Rights Are Valuable

Popular songs can remain in demand long after a theatrical release. Buyers consider the film stars, composers, language markets and expected streaming audience when negotiating music rights. A large reported figure does not by itself prove that the music label has made a profit.

The music-rights market has also benefited from the popularity of South Indian cinema. For more coverage, see Kollywood, Tollywood and our Allu Arjun profile.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which film has one of the highest reported music-rights sales in India?

Pushpa 2: The Rule was reported at ₹65 crore. A separate ₹75 crore refundable advance for the two-part Ramayana project was reported in 2026, but the two arrangements are not directly equivalent.

Are OTT rights and music rights the same?

No. Music rights cover the use and distribution of soundtrack recordings, whereas digital streaming and satellite broadcasting rights cover other forms of film distribution. Their reported amounts should not be mixed.

Note: Deal values are reported estimates; some associated OTT and satellite figures have not been independently verified.
