Big collection numbers make headlines, but they do not tell you whether a film succeeded. A film that earns ₹300 crore can still be a modest result, and a film that earns ₹90 crore can be a blockbuster. This report lists every film we track from 2022 to 2026 with its cost and one simple number: how much of the cost came back. Across 282 films, the share that reached Hit or better fell from 41% in 2022 to 23% in 2025.

How we read these numbers
For every film we use three figures:
Worldwide gross: total ticket sales across the world, including overseas.
Cost: estimated production cost plus prints and advertising (P&A).
Recovery %: worldwide gross divided by cost. A film at 100% has earned back exactly what it cost.
Our verdict is based on recovery %:

This is a simple yardstick, not an official trade verdict. Trade analysts judge films on distributor share, which is lower than gross, so their verdicts can be harsher than ours.
What is in the list. Besides Telugu films, the list includes some Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi films that released in the Telugu states or across India, because readers search for them together. Films marked 'all languages' show the combined worldwide gross.
What we cleaned up. Duplicate rows are merged. Re-releases and Telugu-dubbed-version numbers sit in their own tables, because comparing them with the original film's cost would be misleading. Where the source gave two figures for one film (Hanuman, Waltair Veerayya), we used the figure from its year table.
2022–2026 at a glance
The share of films reaching Hit or better has fallen from 41% in 2022 to 23% in 2025, while flops and disasters now make up close to half of the list.

Counts exclude re-releases, Telugu-version-only figures and the two films still running (Ranabali and Jailer 2). Average and Below Average films make up the rest of each year.
Our view: what 282 films tell us
1. Fewer films are clearing the bar. The share of Hit or Blockbuster films in this list fell from 41% (2022) to 23% (2025), and is at 30% in 2026 so far. The list itself changes from year to year, so read this as a direction, not an exact measure.
2. Big budgets are the riskiest bet. In 2022–2024, 10 of 20 films costing ₹200 crore or more reached Hit or better. In 2025–2026 it is 1 of 15: Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu, at 151%.
3. Smaller films carry the upside. Films costing ₹60 crore or less reached Hit or better in 20 of 70 cases in 2025–2026 (29%), against 1 of 15 (7%) for films costing ₹200 crore or more.
4. The biggest misses are the biggest budgets. The largest gaps between cost and gross are Toxic (cost ₹900 crore, gross ₹346 crore, 38%), Kanguva (₹350 crore, ₹101.9 crore, 29%), Game Changer (₹450 crore, ₹202.5 crore, 45%), The Raja Saab (₹400 crore, ₹204.15 crore, 51%) and Ustaad Bhagat Singh (₹266 crore, ₹95.55 crore, 36%).
5. Gross alone can mislead. Peddi has a gross of ₹350.6 crore and recovered 100% of its cost, while Maa Inti Bangaram earned ₹96.5 crore and recovered 241%. Always read the gross next to the cost.

Why the verdict can differ from other sites
You may see different labels for the same film elsewhere. There are two reasons. First, cost figures are estimates and trackers do not agree on them. Second, gross is not the money the producer or distributor actually keeps. Theatres, taxes and distributors take a share. That is why a film with a decent gross can still be called a flop by trade analysts.

What is the difference between gross and nett collection?
Gross is the total ticket sales including taxes. Nett is the amount after taxes are removed. Distributor share is what remains with the distributor after theatres take their cut, and it is the closest figure to a film's real earnings.
